Mobile SecretBook now available at App Store

September 11th, 2008 8

I just received confirmation a few hours ago to say that Mobile SecretBook has been approved. I’ve already had one support request, and that means at least one purchase so it must all be there.

If you do download a copy remember that you need SecretBook 4 to sync (your version 3 license will work with 4 during the preview release). You also need to explicitly turn on network syncing on your Mac. It’s the last option on the first settings page. You can access settings through the toolbar in your document window, it’s the first icon.

Network sync is not on by default because it’s bad manners to do anything network related without telling the user first :-) .

UPDATE: As people have noticed it appears that the availability in the App Store is a bit uncertain. From what I can tell from users the US store is fine, both on the iPhone and inside iTunes. My own experience in the UK App Store is that SecretBook does not seem to be available on the iPhone App Store. It is available in the iTunes App Store, but you cannot search for it. If you go to the Productivity and order by Release Date (the default) then SecretBook is currently the first item on the second page. I presume that things will sort themselves out over time, but I’m only guessing.

I’m curious, what kind of connection does Mobile SecretBook sync with “desktop” SecretBook? I see many apps are utilizing WiFi network connections between the desktop computer and iPhone to do the syncing, but that doesn’t work for me because I use wired Ethernet.

Perhaps a special intro price would allow more people or current customers to try out your mobile
app and give a review in itunes.

@Chris K – SecretBook uses the WiFi connection for syncing, which does mean that you need to be on the same local network as your Mac. I thought this was fine as I couldn’t see a need for remote syncing. It does raise an issue though if you don’t have a wireless network. You could set up a peer-to-peer network from your Mac if it has WiFi. I know that is not ideal but Apple does not allow access to the iTunes sync process for developers.

@Larry Z – Larry has informed me that once he had done an iTunes sync after purchasing Mobile SecretBook everything started working as it should. I have not seen this but it does seem to be a good thing to try if you are having syncing problems.

Wow, my favortie keep things together app in the App Store. Sadly it is at moment not in the App Store… has Apple taken it off? I checked the US Store and the German Store.

I hope that you will release it “worldwide”. I’m from germany and would’nt have anything against a english version to start with. Otherwise I’d have to purchase it with my US Account and I don’t know if I can transfer the license later on to my actual account (the german one). But the main thing is that it should soon be back in the App Store.

Dowloaded the iPhone App. Installed it, turned on sync on my MBP, told Mobile SecretBook to sync and everything worked perfectly. Very nice job, gentlemen. I am sure you have been quite busy getting this ready.

BTW, you have to browse through the Productivity group to find secretbook in the US store. No Powersearch criteria I could come up with would locate it. Just and FYI.

I bought Mobile SecretBook on the Swiss App Store and everything works perfectly. Searching the App was not possible, but it was available under the Productivity category. Thank you for making this application!
