Firewall settings and SongBook Mac

May 20th, 2009 0

If you have your Mac firewall set up to block all incoming connections SongBook will not be able to find network devices. This is one of the most common reasons why SongBook does not find your Media Server or Music device.

To fix this problem you need to set the firewall to allow incoming connections for SongBook. You can do this in Preferences, which can be found in the ? (Apple) menu.

In Preferences select Security and then Firewall. Change the setting from “Allow only essential services” to “Set access for specific services and applications”. Press the + button and find SongBook (it is most likely in your /Applications folder).

You firewall preferences should now look like this:

If you are having connection problems it may be a good idea to temporarily turn the firewall off and see if that improves things.

If this does not solve your connectivity problems then the issue is most likely network related. I have had reports of users changing their router, or simply upgrading the firmware, and this has solved their problems.
