SongBook touch 2.0 released – with Cara support

July 17th, 2009 9

The much anticipated 2.0 release of SongBook has been released by Apple after a somewhat long review process. Apple are very busy at present with app reviews so the timing of releases is somewhat unpredictable.

SongBook 2.0 has a largely redesigned user interface. The redesign was based on experience and feedback with the 1.0 release. Our major goal with this release was to make as much use of the screen space as possible, and I think the results are quite good. You may want to give it a bit of time before coming to any conclusions as change takes time to get used to.

I’m most pleased with the new horizontal play view. This shows a lot of information about the current track, including the format and bitrate. Not only is more information displayed, but you have more control of playback. On the progress display you can tap to seek to a point in the track. As before you can skip tracks by swiping left or right, and you can access play/pause using a single tap.

The Rooms view has also been completely updated. Now each room section is actually a live view in to the room, you can alter the volume and see what is playing in all rooms directly from this single view.

The album art loading has been improved in the Library section too, but the biggest update is support for Linn’s Cara firmware release. Cara is not officially released yet, so this support may need updating from time to time, but many users have already installed Cara and therefore need support for it in their control software. A number of Linn dealers are now demonstrating with Cara, so it is important that SongBook is available for them to demonstrate.

Existing users should see an update available in the Apple App Store application on their device, and they can download directly from there.

Hello,
I downloaded songbook 2.0 on
my iPod touch. Everything is
fine, but the album-view does
not work. Any rotation of my
iPod makes no album-view.
I would be happy, if you could
help me. Thank’s a lot.

Just loaded Songbook 2.0.0 and it is quite an improvement to my liking. Good Job Jason!
One thing is bothering me though:
When the iPhone turnes automatically off after a while and I activate it again it shows just a white screen. I can only push the home button. So then I need to restart songbook again.
Any chance that songbook will operate where it was like the older versions used to do?
Thanks

Hello!

Really nice piece of software, soon I´ll be controlling my whole apartment from my Iphone :) I´ve got the same problem as Christian that my screen goes white after waking up. I hope that this will be fixed in the next update!
Thanks

It is indeed fixed in the next update. It is currently awaiting approval from Apple.

Hi,

SongBook is really a nice application, but I experience a couple of problems. The first one is that I don’t get any volume slider and hence I am not able to control the volume from my iPhone or iPod. Is this just a configuration matter? I am now running 2.0.3 on my iPhone, but it was also the same problem with the previous version.
The second problem appears if the device display has been switched off automatically without SongBook being closed. When turning it on again, it normally don’t find any DS player and nothing works, even a rescan does not work. A restart of SongBook is then required.
The third problem occurred on my iPod touch after downloading version 2.0.3. The application crashes during startup. The same version works on my iPhone. Could it be that the upgrade failed? Is it possible to re-install this version, or the previous?

SongBook 2.0.3 had an error in it that meant it would not work on OS 2.2.1. You should really upgrade to OS 3.0 as 2.2.1 will not be supported for ever, and is getting harder and harder to continue to support, but we have submitted a new version of SongBook, called 2.0.4, which does fix this problem.

To get volume control support you need a Linn preamp connected to your Linn DS and configured correctly. You need a Linn serial cable for this, and you can configure it with Linn’s Konfig application. Your dealer would be useful to consult for this.

The problem with SongBook is an issue with OS 2.2.1, we have uploaded a new version to fix this, version 2.0.4. The other option you have is to upgrade your iPod to OS 3.0, but there is a charge for this. If you have an iPhone the upgrade is free and you should definitely do it.
