New SongBook touch release coming soon

November 13th, 2009 Comments Off

This came as something as a surprise, but I got a response from Apple about the delays in approving the new release of SongBook. They have agreed to an expedited review of the latest release, so it should be in the store soon.

Still a very frustrating experience for everyone though. It’s been over 40 days since an update to SongBook, and the current release does not work well with Cara, and not well at all with Cara 3 and 5. The new release will sort this out and give you some nice startup time improvements.

I do have some more updates in the queue, but I don’t want to risk any more delays, so as soon as this release is live I’ll be submitting another update. I do hope this is back to the normal schedule of around 14 days for review. If that is the case we should be back to a good current release in no time.

New SongBook touch version

As many of you know an update for SongBook is long overdue. We’ve been having a bit of a problem with the App Store submissions, our last release has been in review for 34 days now, neither rejected or approved. This is very frustrating as it is holding up quite a few important features and fixes.

We emailed Apple about this and have not received a reply yet. Only silence.

So maybe something has gone wrong with this particular submission? Just in case we have removed that version and resubmitted a new release. That takes us to the back of the queue again, but as Apple helpfully informs us, 87% of application reviews are currently completed in 10 days or less at present, so it can’t be worse than the current submission.

Interestingly though while going through the process of the latest submission we became aware that our Distribution Provisioning Profile had expired. We hadn’t noticed this before, and the development tools do not make you aware of this, but perhaps that is what the problem is. We generated a new profile and have now resubmitted, so hopefully we will have better luck with this version.

The new release adds support for Linn Cara 3 and 4 firmware, and fixes an issue with network events not getting through. This has been fixed for over a month now in development, but we cannot get it out to you.

There are other improvements such as wider device support, and improvements to startup time and reliability.
