SongBook DS 3.0.2 Available

June 16th, 2010 3

An update to SongBook DS has been approved by Apple, the current version is now 3.0.2. This update addresses crashes with Sonos devices and Linn CD players so will be an important update if you are getting crashes at startup.

There are also a few small improvements such as adding volume up/down buttons on the iPad and showing the active zone name on the zone button.

We’re working on a further update to add some more user interface features to the iPad version (the much requested ‘Now Playing’ screen amongst other things). We wanted to make sure that this bug fix release was out before submitting any other updates as you go to the back of the queue each time you upload a new version.

For those keeping track this review cycle took quite a while. We hope that this was just due to a temporary backlog in the approval queue, but in the end the delay was not too bad. It does seem like an eternity though when you have a version out there that is not working for some users. With the release of 3.0.2 we hope we have all the issues sorted out with the new network discovery system and that everything is reliable from now on.

Hello!

Ist the problem with lost file-info after track skip also fixed? Please for the future, make normal Skip-buttons and let us move the time progress bar in realtime!
General question: why ist the “Album” list so slowly? Is it not the better way to generate an index of the library like Sonos? This takes some time at once, but afterwards the lists ar still there without dealy, and scrolling in the album list is very fast. Songbook loads every time the whole list. Why?

SongBook on the iPhone does not have room for normal skip buttons. The iPad version does have this, but on the iPhone you need to tap on the track that you want to go to. In the currently playing track view you can also swipe left or right to skip.

Moving the progress bar in real time is something we get asked about often. The trouble is there is no command to a Linn DS or UPNP player to scan forward or backwards in this way. The only command we have is to jump to a position (in seconds) in the track.

The album listing is a little slow the first time it loads as it is storing all the album art images. This slows down the scrolling, but once the images are stored the scrolling is faster than it was in SongBook 2, so overall it should be faster.

We are investigating caching the entire album data locally, but this is not a simple task as when a new album is added the entire list must be reloaded, and that would slow down the listing even further.

On newer devices such as the iPhone 3GS, iPad and iPhone 4 the speed should be very good, we have done a lot of work optimising the speed of SongBook for existing devices though. It’s only the image caching that is slower. We made particularly large speed improvements loading large playlists, and this helps make startup time faster too.

Hi Jason!

Thanks, i know this with the swipe left or right. But it is not perfect when i want to go back to the beginning of the actual track. I think it is enough space to make skip buttons, also on iphone and ipod touch.

I dont know the technical problem, but an “Plugplayer” can move the time progress bar for DS-Player in realtime.

I think, that the speed of album list (scrolling up down) is much slower than before!?

What about the loosen file format info after skip or whipe forward backward?

Thanks.

Greetings
Mike
